New ICE detention facility coming to TN
MASON, Tenn. (WSMV) - A Tennessee town is set to be the next home of a detention center for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement following an agreement to reopen a former prison in mid-August. The company in charge of running the facility is CoreCivic, a private prison company that runs over 80 facilities in Tennessee.

State lawmakers want DCS to start building new juvie in West Tennessee by 2026
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Tennessee lawmakers met at the state capitol Tuesday to discuss a bill that, as introduced, seeks to launch a study at the state level for a new juvenile detention facility in West Tennessee. In an 8-0 vote Tuesday, House Bill 1358/Senate Bill 374 was amended to include a nine-month deadline for the Department of Children’s Services (DCS) to begin construction on the new facility.

On Monday, the Williamson County Commission approved up to $280 million in bonds for a long-discussed JJJ (or triple-J) project which includes plans for the construction of both a new adult jail and juvenile detention and court facility. The resolution passed 16-7 with Commissioners Mary Smith, Barb Sturgeon, Brian Clifford, Lisa Hayes, Pete Stressor, Drew Torres and Christopher Richards voting no, while Jeff Graves abstained from the vote.
